The questions are written for this site and made fresh for every set, so you can practise as often as you like. Every answer is checked by a program before the site is published.
Sample questions with answers
1. 4 pounds of apples cost $11.80. At the same price, how much do 2 pounds cost?
A. $23.60 B. $5.90 C. $9.80 D. $2.95
Show answer
B. $5.90. Find the price of 1 pound: $11.80 ÷ 4 = $2.95. Then 2 × $2.95 = $5.90.
2. A town had 230 trees. It now has 264.5. By what percent did the number of trees increase?
A. 34.5% B. 15% C. 13% D. 30%
Show answer
B. 15%. Increase: 264.5 − 230 = 34.5. Divide by the original: 34.5 ÷ 230 = 0.15, which is 15%.
3. Liam buys 2 paint brushes for $5.40 each and pays with $30. How much change should they get?
A. $19.20 B. $20.20 C. $24.60 D. $10.80
Show answer
A. $19.20. Cost: 2 × $5.40 = $10.80. Change: $30 − $10.80 = $19.20.
Tips
- Arithmetic Reasoning is mostly word problems: write down what is asked before you calculate.
- Mathematics Knowledge rewards knowing the formulas for area, circles and the Pythagorean theorem by heart.
- Practise without a calculator, because the ASVAB does not allow one.
