KS2 Maths Worksheets (Free Printable, Years 3-6)
What KS2 Covers
Key Stage 2 runs through Years 3 to 6 (ages 7 to 11) and is where UK primary maths gets serious. By the end of KS2, pupils should be fluent in all four operations with multi-digit numbers, comfortable with fractions and decimals, able to tackle percentages and ratio, and prepared for the KS2 SATs at the end of Year 6.
Our full library of free printable KS2 maths worksheets spans all four years. Every PDF comes with an answer key and is ready to print.
The KS2 Journey
### Year 3 (ages 7-8)
Year 3 is the start of KS2 and a step up from KS1. Pupils add the 3, 4 and 8 times tables to the 2, 5 and 10 they already know. Written methods for addition and subtraction are formalised with the column method. Fractions become more formal with tenths and equivalent fractions.
Key focus: times tables fluency (2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10) and formal written methods for addition and subtraction.
### Year 4 (ages 8-9)
Year 4 is dominated by times tables. All tables up to 12 x 12 must be mastered by the end of the year, culminating in the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC). Written methods extend to short multiplication and division. Decimals are formally connected to fractions.
Key focus: times tables up to 12 x 12, written methods for multiplication and division.
### Year 5 (ages 9-10)
Year 5 introduces long multiplication, long division with 1-digit divisors, and more sophisticated fraction work. Percentages make their first formal appearance. Pupils also work with large numbers (up to 1,000,000) and negative numbers.
Key focus: long multiplication and division, fraction operations with different denominators, percentages.
### Year 6 (ages 10-11)
Year 6 prepares pupils for the KS2 SATs and secondary school. All topics from Years 3 to 5 are revised and extended. Ratio and proportion are introduced as new topics, along with simple algebra.
Key focus: SATs preparation, consolidation of all KS2 topics, introduction to ratio and algebra.
The Core Topics
Across KS2, these topics come up every year at increasing levels of difficulty:
- Times tables — all tables up to 12 x 12 by end of Year 4
- Written methods — column addition, subtraction, long multiplication, long division
- Fractions — from simple naming in Y3 to full four operations in Y6
- Decimals — from tenths in Y3 to all operations in Y6
- Percentages — introduced in Y5, extended in Y6
- Measurement — converting units, area, volume, perimeter
- Geometry — angles, shapes, coordinates
- Statistics — bar charts, line graphs, pie charts (Y6)
Preparing for SATs
The KS2 SATs are taken at the end of Year 6 and cover the entire KS2 curriculum. Preparation shouldn't start in Year 6 alone — it's the result of four years of solid foundations.
Throughout KS2, focus on:
- Building automatic recall of maths facts (times tables, number bonds)
- Fluency with written methods, not just understanding
- Regular practice with word problems and multi-step reasoning
- Confident work with fractions, decimals and percentages
Formal SATs revision typically starts in January of Year 6. From that point, focused practice with past papers and targeted worksheets makes a real difference.
A KS2 Practice Routine
Daily short practice works best at every KS2 age. Recommended session length by year:
- Year 3: 10-15 minutes
- Year 4: 15 minutes
- Year 5: 15-20 minutes
- Year 6: 20 minutes (more during SATs revision)
A typical week rotates topics:
- Monday: times tables or arithmetic fluency
- Tuesday: written methods (addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division)
- Wednesday: times tables or arithmetic
- Thursday: fractions, decimals, or percentages
- Friday: a mixed review or word problems
Supporting Your Child
Some practical tips for KS2 maths at home:
- Insist on showing work. KS2 problems have too many steps to do in the head.
- Review mistakes together. Wrong answers are where learning happens.
- Keep it positive. Maths anxiety is real, and parents' attitudes shape children's attitudes.
- Celebrate improvement, not just perfection.
- Take breaks when needed. Forcing a session rarely produces good work.
